Actor Devan appointed BJP Kerala vice-president

Renowned film actor Devan has been appointed as the state vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the decision announced by party state president K Surendran on Wednesday. This move precedes the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Devan, who previously founded the Kerala People’s Party in 2004, merged his party with the BJP in 2021.

Expressing his admiration for the principles of the saffron party, Devan stated that the decision to merge was not solely based on the upcoming Lok Sabha election but rooted in his ongoing collaboration with the BJP since 2021. The merger occurred in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Devan emphasized his commitment to strengthening the party in Kerala moving forward.

Known for his notable villain and character roles, Devan has been a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema for several decades. His new role as the state vice president aligns with his continued involvement and dedication to the BJP’s principles in the region.
