Kerala Literature festival to feature 8 nations and 400+ speakers

Kozhikode, declared the ‘City of Literature’ by UNESCO months ago, is set to host the Kerala Literature Festival in January, featuring over 400 speakers from around the world. The event will have Turkey as the guest country of honor, and it will take place on the sandy shores of Kozhikode from January 11. Organized by DC Kizhakemuri Foundation and co-promoted by DC Books, the four-day festival will bring together authors, actors, thinkers, and activists for discussions on various topics, including science, literature, art, gender, cinema, culture, and the environment.

Notable participants in the festival include Gurcharan Das, Perumal Murugan, Jerry Pinto, Preeti Shenoy, actor Prakash Raj, former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, adman Piyush Pandey, and Congress MP and writer Shashi Tharoor, among others. Countries like the UK, Wales, Spain, Japan, USA, Malaysia, and France will participate, making it a global celebration of literature and culture. Turkey, celebrating 100 years of the republic, will be represented through music, dance, food, and various art forms. The festival will also feature a performance by over 25 original Sufi dancers from Konya, where poet Rumi is buried, and concerts by Carnatic legends like TM Krishna and Vikku Vinayakram, along with a surbahar and sitar concert by Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee.
