The Indian warship INS Kadmatt has arrived in the capital city of the Philippines, Manila, as part of the Navy’s extensive long-range operational deployment program. The ship reached Manila on December 12, and the visit includes a joint exercise aimed at strengthening maritime collaboration between India and the Philippines, as stated by the Indian Navy. During the port call, planned engagements between naval personnel from both countries involve professional interactions, subject matter expert exchanges, and cross-deck visits to enhance cooperation and share best practices, the Navy reported. Additionally, community outreach activities, social impact initiatives, and visits by school children are scheduled during the visit.
Following its departure from Manila, INS Kadmatt is set to participate in a maritime partnership exercise in the South China Sea alongside BRP Ramon Alcaraz, an offshore patrol vessel of the Philippines Navy. China asserts its claim over the South China Sea based on historical grounds, while India advocates for a peaceful resolution under international laws. The bilateral defense cooperation between India and the Philippines focuses on capacity-building through training exchanges and delegation visits. Notably, in January 2022, the Philippines became the first country to export the BrahMos Missile system in a deal worth $374.9 million.
