Opposition Protests Over Parliament Security Breach; Rajya Sabha Adjourned Until 2 PM

Amidst opposition protests, Rajya Sabha proceedings on Friday were adjourned until 2 pm after Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected their requests to suspend the day’s scheduled business for a discussion on the recent security breach in Parliament. The Chairman informed the House of receiving 23 notices addressing the “serious situation” arising from the breach on Wednesday. Dhankhar asserted that an investigation into the incident is ongoing and will be brought to a logical conclusion, leading to protests from opposition parties.

The opposition also raised the issue of the suspension of TMC member Derek O’Brien from the House for the remaining part of the Winter session ending on December 22. In response to the protest, the Chairman adjourned proceedings until 2 pm. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha proceedings were swiftly adjourned as opposition MPs demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on the Parliament security breach. Opposition members sought a discussion on the breach and action against the BJP MP who authorized passes for the individuals involved in the incident. The Lok Sabha session was adjourned till 2 pm following the disruption.
