In a significant setback for Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, the Supreme Court declined his plea for a review of its previous order on October 30, denying him bail in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The two-judge bench, led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna and including Justice S V N Bhatti, stated that there is “no case for review” as they rejected Sisodia’s petition.
Sisodia faces money laundering charges in the liquor policy scam case and had sought bail after the Supreme Court’s initial refusal on October 30. The court’s earlier decision dismissed his bail plea in cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to the Delhi excise policy scam. Sisodia’s review petition was also rejected by the Apex Court.
Although the Supreme Court’s October 30 verdict did not grant bail, it directed that the trial should be concluded within 6 to 8 months. If the trial progresses slowly, Sisodia has the right to reapply for bail within three months.
Sisodia had been arrested on February 26, facing allegations of corruption in the development and implementation of the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. In March, a trial court had dismissed his bail plea, stating that he was prima facie the “architect” of the alleged scam and had a pivotal role in the criminal conspiracy involving purported advance kickbacks of nearly Rs 100 crore for him and his colleagues in the Delhi government.
