In a tragic incident on Friday evening, a collision between an autorickshaw and a bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims in Manjeri, Malappuram district, resulted in the death of five individuals, including four members of a family. The victims were identified as Abdul Majeed (55), the autorickshaw driver, Thasneema (33), along with her children Raiha Fathima (4) and Rinsha Fathima (12), and her elder sister Muhsina (35) from Pullur in Manjeri town.
The deceased were travelling with three other family members who sustained injuries: Thasneema’s one-month-old daughter Rishama, and Muhsina’s children Muhammed Noushad, Fathima Hassa, and Muhammed Ahsan. All four injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital and a private hospital in Manjeri.
The collision occurred at Chettiyangadi, 2 km from Manjeri, on the Manjeri-Areekode road. The autorickshaw, carrying eight passengers, collided head-on with a tourist bus hired by Sabarimala pilgrims from Hosur village in Siddapur Taluk, Uttara Kannada district. Despite the bus’s front side sustaining damage, none of the pilgrims on board were injured. Emergency responders and local residents swiftly extricated the passengers and the autorickshaw driver from the wreckage. The deceased bodies were transported to the Government Medical College Hospital in Manjeri for autopsy.
