The laying of the foundation stone for the Masjid Mohammad bin Abdullah in Ayodhya is anticipated to take place next year, with invitations extended to saints, pirs, and clerics for the ceremony, according to individuals involved in the project. The Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) is responsible for overseeing the mosque’s construction. Haji Arfat Shaikh, the chairman of the Ayodhya mosque development committee and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, disclosed plans to invite religious leaders from around the world upon the mosque’s completion in the next five to six years. He asserted that the mosque would surpass the beauty of the iconic Taj Mahal.
The mosque, named after the Prophet, is slated to be erected in Dhannipur, 25 km from Ayodhya, on a plot allocated by the Uttar Pradesh government following a Supreme Court order in the Ayodhya Ram temple dispute. Shaikh emphasized the intention to invite saints and pirs from across the country for the foundation stone-laying ceremony early next year.
Zufar Ahmad Faruqi, president and chief trustee of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, expressed the hope of inviting clerics from across the country for the ceremony and later dignitaries from around the world when the mosque is completed. Beyond the mosque, the development committee envisions the establishment of colleges specializing in various fields, hospitals, and a vegetarian community center catering to people of all faiths.
