In a bid to uplift the morale of its disheartened cadre after setbacks in three northern states, the Congress party is gearing up for an extensive rally in Nagpur on December 28, coinciding with the party’s foundation day. The event is anticipated to attract a massive turnout of more than 10 lakh individuals.
On Friday, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, overseeing the preparations in Nagpur, disclosed that the mega rally would feature prominent leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other dignitaries.
Venugopal underscored the Congress party’s growing national support, citing notable increases in votes during recent assembly elections in four states. He pointed out the party’s recent victories in Karnataka and Telangana while attributing concerns about the central government’s functioning to what he characterized as a dictatorial approach by the BJP and security lapses, such as the recent breach in parliament. Expressing apprehensions about national security, he criticized the BJP-led government, highlighting two attacks on the “temple of democracy.” Venugopal raised concerns about parliamentary security and criticized the suspension of 14 Opposition MPs for questioning security, contrasting it with the lack of action against the BJP MP who provided passes to the attackers.
Nana Patole, the President of the Maharashtra Congress, outlined plans for the foundation day rally, foreseeing participation from over 10 lakh people across the state. Patole highlighted the collaborative efforts of all facets of the Congress party to ensure the success of this historic rally, involving leaders, workers, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, and various departments.
