Kuwait announces 40-day mourning period, 3-day closure of government offices

Kuwait City:  Kuwait government has announced 40 days of mourning and a 3-day closure of official departments over the death of its emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah. Work at these official departments shall resume on Wednesday. During the mourning period, flags at the state’s offices will be flown at half-mast.

Kuwait’s royal court announced the details of Sheikh Nawaf’s funeral. Prayers will be held at the Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque tomorrow, Sunday, at 9am. The funeral — which will follow later in the morning — will be restricted to family members.

Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait passed away yesterday. Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah was aged  86.  Sheikh Nawaf was admitted to a hospital due to an emergency health issue in November.

Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah was named Emir of Kuwait. The deputy prime minister and minister of state for cabinet affairs made the announcement on Saturday after the death of Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah.

Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah is aged 83. He is believed to be the world’s oldest crown prince.
