Man serving life for child sexual abuse escapes jail in Texas, US

On Sunday (Dec 18), the Texas Department of Criminal Justice issued a disconcerting announcement regarding the escape of a man serving a life sentence for child sex abuse from the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas. The fugitive, identified as 39-year-old Robert Yancy, Jr., was last observed around 3:38 pm.

Robert Yancy, Jr., who was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole in 2022 for continuous sexual abuse of a child in Victoria County, managed to escape, triggering an active search by authorities. Yancy was reportedly seen fleeing in a 2021 white Nissan Versa with the license plate DNR9145. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a black beanie and a black sweater.

In response to the situation, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has called for public assistance in locating the escapee, urging citizens to avoid approaching Yancy and instead promptly report any sightings to law enforcement.

In an official statement, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice stated, “The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is searching for an escapee. Robert Yancy, Jr. (#02400500), 39 years old, was last seen at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Sunday, December 17 at the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas. If you see Yancy, do not approach him and contact your local law enforcement. If you have information on his whereabouts, you can also leave a tip with the Office of Inspector General at 1-800-832-8477.”

The escape of an individual serving a life sentence for child sex abuse raises concerns about public safety, prompting heightened vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement and the community to swiftly locate and apprehend the fugitive. Authorities have underscored the importance of citizen engagement in reporting any information that may aid in the successful resolution of this case.
