NIA conducts raids across south India targeting radicalised jihadist network

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 19 locations in South India as part of an operation targeting a “highly radicalized jihadi terror group.” The anti-terror agency, in collaboration with state police forces, initiated the raids on Monday morning. While the exact location and details about the jihadi group were not disclosed for operational reasons, sources indicate that the majority of the searched places are linked to individuals associated with the said group. The terror group is reportedly involved in anti-India activities and is known for planning attacks and recruiting youths.

This action follows recent NIA raids in Bengaluru, Karnataka, related to the radicalization of prisoners by a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist. The December 13 raids targeted six locations, including the residences of four accused individuals. Digital devices, incriminating documents, and Rs 7.3 lakhs in cash were seized during the extensive searches. The case (RC-28/2023/NIA/DLI) is part of ongoing NIA investigations, and three accused remain absconding, with charges registered under various sections of the IPC, UA(P) Act, 1967, and the Explosive Substances Act, 1884.
