Ladakh experienced a 5.5-magnitude earthquake, followed by two aftershocks of lower intensity within a 15-minute interval, as reported by officials on Monday. Simultaneously, a mild-intensity tremor was felt in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir.
No immediate casualties or damages were reported in either incident. The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) indicated that the 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck at 3.48 pm with its epicenter in Kargil. The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km beneath the surface, with a latitude of 33.41 degrees and a longitude of 76.70 degrees. Subsequently, two aftershocks of 4.8 and 3.8 intensity were recorded at 4.01 pm. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake was reported at 4.18 pm, with a depth of 10 km below the surface, at a latitude of 33.37 degrees and a longitude of 76.57 degrees, according to NCS data.
