The Rajya Sabha proceedings were suspended until 2 p.m. on Tuesday as a few remaining opposition MPs continued to demand a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the Parliament security breach. Following the suspension of 45 MPs on the previous day for raising the security breach issue, the opposition benches were largely vacant. The Congress had only a few members present, including Digvijay Singh and Deependar Hooda, with some MPs from the TMC and the DMK. The opposition MPs also protested the suspension of a significant number of members for seeking a statement from the government, while the BJP MP who facilitated the intruders’ entry into Parliament remained in the House.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar did not allow any of the MPs to speak and stated that the four notices received under rule 267 were not admissible. Rule 267 notices call for the suspension of the day’s business to discuss the raised issue. As MPs protested by standing in their places, Dhankhar’s appeals for exemplary conduct were met with further protests. When an MP moved towards the Well of the House, Dhankhar adjourned the proceedings until 2 p.m.
