The Congress initiated a series of protests across Kerala on Wednesday, targeting the ruling front and condemning violence during the Nava Kerala Sadas program. The Youth Congress march toward the Kerala Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram escalated into violence when police prevented activists from scaling the Secretariat wall. Water cannons were used five times to disperse the crowd, and agitators damaged boards placed for the Navakerala Sadas. A clash between protesters and police led to lathi-charges, arrests, and heightened tension at various locations. The Youth Congress workers displayed a banner reading ‘Is Chief Minister a goon?’ in front of the Secretariat, with leaders like VD Satheesan, Shafi Parambil, and Rahul Mamkootathil participating in the march. Similar tensions and clashes occurred during Congress marches to police stations across the state, denouncing attacks on Youth Congress and KSU activists during protests against the Nava Kerala Sadas. A march to the City Police Commissioner’s office in Ernakulam turned violent, prompting police to use water cannons to disperse activists, including women, led by Ernakulam DCC president Mohammed Shiyas.
