A delegation from Israel recently visited India, and another senior group is scheduled to depart for India next week to initiate the recruitment of thousands of workers. This move aims to address the severe shortage faced by the Israeli construction industry. The Israel Builders Association plans to start the selection process in Delhi and Chennai on December 27, with the goal of initially bringing in 10,000 workers, eventually scaling up to 30,000 based on the project’s progress. The selection process is expected to last 10-15 days.
According to Shay Pauzner, the Deputy Director General and Spokesperson for the Israel Builders Association, the urgency for more workers is crucial for ongoing construction projects. Israel has previously employed workers from various regions, including the Palestinian Authority-controlled West Bank, the Gaza Strip, China, and Eastern Europe. Due to recent geopolitical events, there has been a shortage of workers. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the need for foreign workers from India during a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The move to recruit workers from India follows discussions initiated by Israel’s Minister of Economy, Nir Barkat, during his visit to India in April, aiming to address workforce needs in Israel’s infrastructure industry.
