A day after participating in the INDIA bloc meeting, Arvind Kejriwal embarked on a 10-day Vipassana retreat in Anandgarh village, Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, possibly skipping the Enforcement Directorate’s second summons related to the liquor policy case. The Chief Minister’s Office stated that Kejriwal would be completely disconnected from his political commitments until December 30. The ED had previously issued a second summons for questioning on Monday, following the CM’s non-compliance with the initial summons on November 2, which he criticized as “vague, motivated, and unsustainable in law.”
Sources indicated that Kejriwal left for the scheduled meditation course around 1:30 pm on Wednesday. This marks his first attendance at a Vipassana session in Punjab, and strict security measures, including a ban on drones with cameras, have been implemented around the Chauhal rest house and the Vipassana centre. If Kejriwal fails to appear on December 21, the ED plans to reissue a third summons, as he can only skip a summons thrice before facing a non-bailable arrest warrant. The AAP raised concerns about the timing of the summons, emphasizing that Kejriwal’s Vipassana session was pre-scheduled and publicly known. AAP MP Raghav Chadha stated that Kejriwal regularly attends this meditation course. Kejriwal’s former deputy, Manish Sisodia, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh have already been arrested in connection with the case.
