The Delhi High Court has instructed both the Central and Delhi Governments to review a representation made within three months in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The PIL requests the court to direct the linking of movable and immovable property documents with Aadhaar numbers to combat corruption, black money generation, and ‘benami’ transactions. The court, led by Justice Rajiv Shakdher and Justice Girish Kathpalia, declined to issue specific orders on Upadhyay’s plea but emphasized that the Central government should decide on the representation within the stipulated three-month period. The court emphasized that policy decisions are within the government’s purview, but it encouraged the government to consider the petitioner’s request.
Upadhyay had approached the Delhi High Court seeking directives for the Centre to link citizens’ immovable and movable property documents with their Aadhaar numbers to prevent corruption and illicit financial activities.
