Banned members of the CPI (Maoist) detonated an explosive device, damaging railway tracks in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. This act of sabotage disrupted train services on the Howrah-Mumbai route, leading to the cancellation of at least 13 trains and the diversion of one. The incident occurred between Mahadevsal and Posoita stations in the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway, approximately 150 km from the state capital Ranchi. Maoists also erected banners and posters in the affected area. Security has been heightened, and repair work on the damaged railway tracks began promptly.
The explosion, which took place late Thursday night, caused damage to the third line of the railway section. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. Train operations in the division were restored by 9 am on Friday. The affected stretch, spanning two to three meters, necessitated immediate repair efforts. Help desks were set up at various stations to assist passengers. The incident coincides with the Maoist outfit’s ongoing ‘protest week,’ which commenced on December 16 and included a Bharat bandh call for Friday.
