Members of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist) carried out an explosion, damaging a section of railway tracks in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, leading to the disruption of train services on the Howrah-Mumbai route, as reported by the police on Friday.
The incident occurred overnight between Thursday and Friday, specifically between Goilkera and Posoita railway stations, approximately 150 km away from the state capital, Ranchi, stated West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Sekhar.
Enhanced security measures have been implemented in the affected area, and repair work on the railway tracks commenced early in the morning. Authorities expect to resume train services promptly. In addition to the sabotage, the Maoists also placed banners and posters in the vicinity. It’s noteworthy that the banned group had declared a ‘protest week’ starting from December 16 and called for a Bharat bandh on Friday.
