A cold Christmas morning enveloped the national capital in thick fog, as officials reported an improvement in air quality from “severe” to the “very poor” category. According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature recorded was 9.4 degrees Celsius, with 100 percent relative humidity at 8:30 am.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) exhibited a slight amelioration on Monday morning, registering at 393 at 9:05 am. Contrastingly, the 24-hour AQI on Sunday had been 411. The AQI scale categorizes air quality, and the current reading falls within the “very poor” range.
Notably, an AQI between zero and 50 is deemed “good,” 51 to 100 is “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 is “moderate,” 201 to 300 is “poor,” 301 to 400 is “very poor,” and 401 to 500 is labeled “severe.” The improved but still “very poor” air quality underscores ongoing concerns about atmospheric conditions in the region.
