A 51-year-old woman from Visakhapatnam died on Tuesday, raising concerns about the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1. Admitted to King George Hospital on December 24 due to acute respiratory distress syndrome, she tested positive for COVID-19 in the RT-PCR test. Despite specialized treatment, the woman passed away before the results of the Saras variant test, conducted at a Genome Sequencing Lab in Vijayawada, could be obtained.
Dr. P Ashok Kumar, Superintendent of King George Hospital, mentioned that the woman, who had comorbid conditions including kidney failure and multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, succumbed at 3:00 am on Tuesday. While she tested positive for COVID-19, it’s not conclusively determined that her death was solely due to the virus. The patient was initially admitted to Chest Hospital and later transferred to KGH after testing positive for COVID-19.
