Security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district recovered two pressure improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Naxalites on a road. The discovery occurred during a joint patrol by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the district police’s Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on the Palnar-Cherpal villages road. The IEDs, each weighing 5 kg and connected to pressure switches, were neutralized by the BDS, averting a potential tragedy. This marks the recovery of at least 180 IEDs planted by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh this year.
Naxalites frequently employ explosives to target security forces during anti-Naxal operations in the Bastar division, which encompasses seven districts. In a separate incident in Bijapur, a gun battle unfolded between security personnel and Naxalites in a forest near Palnar-Saavnar villages on Monday night. Fortunately, no casualties were reported on either side during the encounter. The recovery of IEDs underscores the ongoing security challenges posed by Naxalite activities in the region.
