Defense Minister Scheduled to Visit Rajouri and Poonch, Set to Review Security Situation

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is set to conduct a comprehensive review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, with a particular focus on the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. The visit, scheduled for December 27, will include a high-level meeting at Raj Bhawan in Jammu. The minister’s assessment will extend to on-the-spot visits to the aforementioned districts, following increased terrorist activities in the region, resulting in the loss of soldiers’ lives.

The day’s itinerary involves a meeting with top Army Commanders at the 16 Corps Headquarters in Nagrota to discuss the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and the security dynamics in Poonch and Rajouri. Subsequently, a meeting at Raj Bhawan is expected to formulate a fresh strategy to counter escalating terrorist attacks. The gathering will include Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army officials, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir police, civil administration, and intelligence agencies.

Rajnath Singh’s visit aims to provide firsthand insights into the security challenges faced by the region. This move follows a recent terror attack at Dera Ki Gali, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers. The minister’s engagement includes interactions with Army officials, civilians, and a potential address to the public in Poonch. The situation further complicated with allegations of the custodial death of three civilians, prompting inquiries and demands for investigations from political quarters. The minister is expected to address these multifaceted challenges during his visit and strategize responses for the security landscape in the region.
