During Christmas celebrations in Poovar near Neyyattinkara, a makeshift bridge collapsed, causing injuries to several individuals, as confirmed by the police. The incident, occurring around 9 pm on Monday, resulted in 7-8 people sustaining injuries. Among them, a woman suffered a significant leg fracture, while others had minor injuries.
The temporary bridge was erected to facilitate people in crossing over a wall to reach the other side for viewing a waterfall, a nativity scene depicting the birth of Jesus, and other Christmas decorations. Measuring about five feet above the ground, the bridge was designed to support a limited number of people at a time. However, when several individuals climbed onto it simultaneously, the bridge couldn’t bear the weight, leading to the accident. The injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
