The Karnataka Health Department has reinstated the home isolation rule for individuals testing positive for Covid-19. On Tuesday, the state reported two deaths and 74 new positive cases. Under the new guidelines, individuals who test positive for Covid-19 are required to undergo a seven-day home isolation period, during which they will be monitored by health officials. Parents are advised not to send children with symptoms like cold or cough to schools, and precautionary vaccines will be administered to senior citizens and those with comorbidities. These decisions were made during the first meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on Covid-19, attended by Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar, top health officials, and members of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The meeting was held in response to the detection of 34 cases of the new Covid-19 variant, JN.1, in the state. Health Minister Gundu Rao emphasized that health officials would visit the homes of Covid-19 patients, conducting tests for both the patients and their family members if symptomatic. Additionally, employees in home isolation, whether from government or private sectors, should be granted mandatory casual leave, while those being treated in hospitals should receive special leave. The government also plans to conduct sewage surveillance in cities such as Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
