Bomb threat to RBI demanding FM’s resignation

On Tuesday, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received a threatening email, asserting that 11 bombs had been strategically placed across Mumbai, coinciding with the upcoming New Year celebrations in the city. The ominous email went further, demanding the resignations of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, accusing them of involvement in the “biggest scam in India’s history.” The claimed bomb locations included RBI offices, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank, setting off immediate concern.

The Mumbai Police acted promptly upon receiving the bomb threat email at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, registering an FIR based on the complaint of Sanjay Harishchandra Pawar, the head guard at RBI, at Mumbai’s MRA Marg police station. The FIR, filed under IPC sections 505(1)(b), 505(2), and 506(2), addressed the gravity of the situation. However, after extensive investigations, authorities found no evidence of explosives at the reported locations, dismissing the credibility of the threats. A police statement affirmed, “A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.”
