Hoskote food poisoning: Hospitalized cases reach 217

The count of individuals hospitalized in the food poisoning incident that occurred in Hoskote near Bengaluru on Sunday has risen to 217 from the initial 135, according to state health officials on Tuesday. The number of patients in the ICU has also increased from 35 to 39. The suspected cause of the food poisoning is believed to be the ‘prasada’ (religious offering) distributed at two temples in Hoskote, as per the police. Health officials note that the numbers surged as devotees who consumed the prasada were admitted to hospitals for treatment after experiencing symptoms like vomiting and dysentery.

Dr Triveni, Joint Director (CMD) of the state health department, mentioned, “The inpatient count is now 217… up from 135. The number of patients in ICU has increased from 35 to 39. Two of the 39 in the ICU are above the age of 80 and have comorbidities and are being monitored. All the 217 inpatients are spread across five hospitals in Hoskote and Bengaluru.” Additionally, provisions have been made to admit people to CV Raman Nagar General Hospital and Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru if the numbers continue to rise. Officials affirmed that the health of those admitted is showing improvement, and further insights into the cause of the food poisoning are anticipated after receiving lab results and blood reports, expected by Thursday.
