Stock Market: Equity indices end at record highs

Mumbai:  Indian equity indices ended higher for the fourth straight session on December 27. BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty settled at all-time amid buying in HDFC Bank, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Ultratech Cement, L&T, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, SBI, Axis Bank, and M&M.

At close, BSE Sensex was up 701.63 points or 0.98% at 72,038.43. NSE Nifty ended at 21,654.80, up 213.50 points or 1.00%. About 1801 shares advanced, 1848 shares declined, and 124 shares remained unchanged. The biggest gainers were  Hindalco Industries, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Auto, JSW Steel and Tata Motors. Top  losers were ONGC, NTPC, Adani Enterprises, UPL and Adani Ports.

The BSE MidCap index added 0.41% and the BSE SmallCap index rose 0.20%. Except for oil & gas and Power, all other sectoral indices ended higher.  Among sectors, the Nifty PSU Bank index gained 2%, the Nifty Auto index 1.38%, the Nifty Metal index 1.39%and the Nifty bank index 1.13%.
