Owner of Mahadev betting app detained in Dubai

Sourabh Chandrakar, a key figure in the Mahadev online betting app case, has been placed under “house detention” in Dubai. Indian authorities, including the Enforcement Directorate (ED), are working through diplomatic channels to secure his deportation, following a similar incident involving another Mahadev app promoter, Ravi Uppal. The ED is reportedly considering filing a fresh charge sheet in the money laundering case. Chandrakar’s location in Dubai has been communicated to the Indian authorities, and he is under “house detention” there. Indian agencies are seeking to use diplomatic channels to facilitate the deportation or extradition of Chandrakar and Uppal. The Mahadev app is under investigation for alleged illegal activities, including illegal betting, with political connections in Chhattisgarh and other areas. The projected proceeds of crime in this case are estimated to be around Rs 6,000 crore. The ED’s investigation has revealed that the Mahadev Online Book App operates from a central head office in the UAE and engages in large-scale hawala operations to transfer betting proceeds offshore. The Mahadev app promoters are accused of paying significant sums to politicians, including former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, an allegation subject to investigation.
