The death sentences for eight former Indian Navy personnel, accused of espionage, have been commuted by a Qatar Court, as announced by the External Affairs Ministry. The Court of Appeal in Qatar reduced the sentences in the Dahra Global case, and the Indian nationals, who were employees of Doha-based Dahra Global, had initially received the death penalty from Qatar’s Court of First Instance in October. The charges against them were not disclosed by Qatari authorities. India had previously appealed against the death sentences, and the External Affairs Ministry stated that it will continue to provide consular and legal assistance to the individuals. The ministry is awaiting a detailed judgment and remains in close contact with the legal team and family members to determine the next course of action. Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of the case, no further comments were made at the moment.
