The Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud along with Justices Sanjeev Khanna and BR Gavai, has put forth recommendations for the appointment of five judges as Chief Justices in various high courts. The resolutions were passed on Wednesday and the official note was subsequently uploaded on the Supreme Court’s website on Thursday. The nominees include Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, Justice Arun Bhansali, and Justice Vijay Bishnoi, who currently serve as judges in the Rajasthan High Court. They have been recommended for the positions of Chief Justices in the high courts of Rajasthan, Allahabad, and Gauhati, respectively.
Additionally, Justice Sheel Nagu, a sitting judge in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, has been proposed for the role of Chief Justice in the Punjab & Haryana High Court. Furthermore, Justice BR Sarangi, a judge in the Orissa High Court, has been recommended for the position of Chief Justice in the Jharkhand High Court. The collegium note highlights the extensive judicial contributions of the nominees, with Justice Bhansali authoring over 1,230 reported judgments, Justice Bishnoi with 652, Justice Shrivastava with 505, Justice Sarangi with over 1,056, and Justice Nagu with more than 499 reported judgments.
