Sabarimala Temple Set to Reopen

The online reservation system for the Makaravilakku festival at Sabarimala temple has reached its capacity, prompting the closure of virtual queue bookings. However, pilgrims still have the option to make on-the-spot bookings at Nilakkal, with a daily limit of 10,000 bookings. Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president P S Prasanth provided details on the virtual queue limits, specifying that from December 30 to January 12, the daily booking limit is 80,000, reducing to 70,000 on January 13, and further to 50,000 on January 14 and 15. Notably, all available slots for these days have already been booked.

The Sabarimala temple is scheduled to reopen for the Makaravilakku festival at 5 pm on Saturday. The reopening ceremony will be conducted by Melsanthi P N Mahesh Namboothiri, in the presence of thantri Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru. The ritual will involve lighting the sacred fireplace (aazhi), after which pilgrims will be able to ascend the holy steps and partake in darshan. The temple had been closed on December 27 at 11 pm following the Mandala pooja.
