On Friday, Karnataka recorded 173 new cases of Covid-19 and two deaths related to the virus in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of active cases in the state to 702, according to the health bulletin. The total number of Covid-19-related deaths in the state has exceeded 10 due to the recent increase in cases. In the last 24 hours, 37 patients have been discharged, and a total of 8,349 tests were conducted, including 6,400 RTPCR and 1,949 Rapid Antigen tests. The positivity rate is 2.07%, and the case fatality rate is 1.15%.
Bengaluru reported the highest number of positive cases, with 82 out of 2,616 tests conducted. The two deceased individuals, aged 59 and 69, were both admitted in Bengaluru Urban district, displaying symptoms of fever and cough. As of Friday, there are 702 active cases in the state, with 649 individuals in home isolation and the remaining 53 hospitalized. In response to the spike in cases and the detection of JN.1 infections in the state, the Karnataka government’s cabinet sub-committee on coronavirus has advised people to wear masks, keep symptomatic children away from schools, adhere to COVID-appropriate behavior, practice social distancing, opt for seven days of home isolation, and grant leave to infected patients. The committee has also decided to administer a “precautionary vaccine” for the elderly and those with comorbidities, acquiring 30,000 doses of the Corbevax vaccine from the Centre for this purpose.
