Bread Upma Recipe:
Ingredients:
– 6-8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
– 2 tbsp oil or ghee
– 1 tsp mustard seeds
– 1 tsp cumin seeds
– 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
– 1/4 cup finely chopped tomatoes
– 1/4 cup chopped carrots
– 1/4 cup chopped bell peppers (optional)
– 1/4 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
– 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
– 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
– 1/2 tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
– Salt to taste
– Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
– Lemon wedges for serving (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
– Trim the edges of the bread slices and cut them into small cubes.
– If using fresh peas, blanch them in hot water for a few minutes.
2. Cooking:
– Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
– Add cumin seeds and sauté for a few seconds until they release their aroma.
– Add finely chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
3. Vegetables:
– Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft.
– Now, add chopped carrots, bell peppers, and green peas. Mix well and cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are tender.
4. Seasoning:
– Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix the spices well with the vegetables.
5. Bread Cubes:
– Add the bread cubes to the pan. Gently toss them with the vegetables until they are well-coated with the spices.
6. Garnish:
– Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
7. Serve:
– Bread upma is ready to be served. You can also squeeze some lemon juice on top for extra flavor.
