US space agency NASA selects three BTS’s songs for their upcoming lunar mission

Despite being on a hiatus, BTS continues to make headlines and set records. The US space agency NASA has reportedly chosen three songs by the band for its upcoming lunar mission. While most BTS members are currently on mandatory military enlistment, including singer-rapper RM, the 29-year-old artist has made history with his solo track “Moonchild” being featured in NASA’s “The Moon Tunes Playlist.”

NASA has selected two other space-themed BTS songs for the Moon Tunes Playlist, namely “Mikrokosmos” and “134340.” RM is now the only K-pop solo artist whose song will be played in space during NASA’s 2024 mission, marking a significant cultural milestone.

NASA is preparing for its next moon mission to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. As part of the preparations, the space agency has curated a special playlist, the Moon Tunes Playlist, featuring BTS songs for the upcoming lunar voyage. The selection of BTS songs by NASA underscores the global impact and popularity of the South Korean boy band.

While the majority of BTS members are currently fulfilling their military service obligations, their music continues to transcend borders and even reaches outer space, reflecting the group’s influence and appeal worldwide. The inclusion of BTS songs in NASA’s lunar mission playlist is seen as a recognition of the band’s cultural significance and the global reach of K-pop.
