India reported 760 new cases of COVID-19 in a single day, with two additional fatalities due to the virus, according to the health ministry’s Thursday update. The total number of active cases stands at 4,423. The recent deaths, one each from Kerala and Karnataka, occurred within a 24-hour period. While daily case numbers had decreased to double digits until December 5, they have surged again following the emergence of a new variant and cold weather conditions. The peak of the pandemic witnessed daily case numbers in the lakhs, resulting in over 4.5 crore infections and more than 5.3 lakh deaths over the past four years in the country. The national recovery rate is currently at 98.81%, with over 4.4 crore individuals having recovered from the disease. The country has administered 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines to date.
