Youth Congress and Kerala Students Union (KSU) workers organized a protest march toward Thekkinkadu Maidan, the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering of women a day ago. The demonstration aimed to express discontent over the cutting of branches from a banyan tree near the venue. The march faced opposition from BJP workers, escalating tensions in the already charged atmosphere. The protest by Youth Congress and KSU was triggered by the removal of tree branches, conducted as part of security measures for Modi’s program in the area.
The BJP countered the march, accusing Youth Congress and KSU activists of bringing cow dung to the venue and escalating tensions. The situation intensified, leading to a substantial deployment of police personnel at the location. The police had to use force to disperse the two groups and restore order, as the confrontation between Youth Congress and BJP workers reached a critical point. The Youth Congress workers claimed that the BJP activists arrived armed with sticks, intending to attack them during the protest.
