Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the PM SHRI schools initiative in the state on Thursday, aiming to upgrade 928 schools under the PM Schools for Rising India (SHRI) Yojana. Out of a total of 1753 selected schools in Uttar Pradesh, the first phase will witness the transformation of 928 schools into integrated campuses with modern facilities. Adityanath emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India to reclaim global leadership in education through the National Education Policy-2020. He highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to advancing in this direction and mentioned that around five crore children in the state are currently receiving education across various courses, a number exceeding the population of many countries.
During the launch at Lok Bhawan, Adityanath, and Union Education and Skill and Entrepreneurship Minister Pradhan announced an allocation of Rs 404 crore for the PM Shri Schools Modernization Program. They also transferred Rs 347 crore for infrastructure facilities in secondary schools under ‘Project Anlakar.’ Adityanath expressed that the PM SHRI Yojna, announced by Prime Minister Modi on Teacher’s Day in 2022, aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, providing renewed inspiration for the five crore children involved in school education in the state. The scheme focuses on enhancing facilities such as Smart Classrooms, Digital Libraries, Science Laboratories, Computer Labs, Bal Vatika, additional classrooms, and furniture in PM Shri Vidyalayas, contributing to the broader implementation of the education policy. Pradhan noted that nearly a thousand schools, operated by both the Central and state governments, in Uttar Pradesh will benefit from the PM SHRI scheme, leading to the construction of modernized schools supporting the National Education Policy 2020.
