The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) announced on Thursday its initiative to provide driving training for women homemakers in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, with the aim of empowering them economically. Approximately 500 women, aged between 18 and 35, are participating in the program, undergoing driving lessons in separate batches. The NCRTC, a joint venture company involving the Government of India and the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, emphasized the objective of enabling women to enhance their livelihoods and achieve economic independence through this initiative.
Before the training commenced, an awareness campaign targeted women in various neighborhoods of Ghaziabad through surveys, emphasizing the idea of economic self-reliance through driving skills. Based on the survey responses, a list of women interested in learning to drive was compiled. The training, conducted in collaboration with the Maruti Motor Training Centre, spans four phases over 21 days, with one-hour sessions each day. The curriculum includes classroom training on driving rules and precautions, technical information about vehicles, simulator-based control training, and practical driving on controlled roads. Additionally, the NCRTC is facilitating the participants in obtaining a learning license for driving, as outlined in the program’s statement.
