The Supreme Court has decided to hear the plea of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy after a four-week period. In his petition to the Apex Court, Revanth Reddy, who is accused in the 2015 cash-for-votes case, asserted his innocence and claimed no involvement in the said case. The two-judge bench, presided over by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, deferred the hearing for four weeks due to the unfortunate loss of a family member of the state’s Advocate-on-Record (AOR) involved in the case. Revanth Reddy, who was a TDP MLA at the time, was apprehended by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau on May 31, 2015, while allegedly offering Rs 50 lakh to nominated MLC Elvis Stephenson to secure a vote in favor of his then-party, TDP.
The Supreme Court’s decision to postpone the hearing comes amidst Revanth Reddy’s plea to close the cash-for-votes case, emphasizing his innocence and lack of involvement in the alleged wrongdoing. The case dates back to 2015 when Revanth Reddy, as a TDP MLA, was arrested for attempting to bribe a nominated MLC for a favorable vote in the party’s interest. The delay in the hearing is attributed to the bereavement in the family of the Advocate-on-Record connected to the case.
