First National Lok Adalat Settles Over 1.43 Lakh Cases

The day-long National Lok Adalat held across Jammu and Kashmir saw the settlement of over 1.43 lakh cases, as reported by an official spokesperson. These cases spanned various categories including motor accident claims, civil and criminal disputes, labor disputes, utility bills, land acquisition, family matters, and financial disputes such as cheque dishonors and bank recoveries. The total compensation or settlement amount awarded during this Lok Adalat amounted to Rs 51.62 crore, highlighting the significant impact of the event in resolving legal matters efficiently.

The inaugural ceremony, presided over by Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Chief Justice N Kotiswar Singh, marked the beginning of the year’s first National Lok Adalat at the district court complex in Srinagar. A total of 110 benches across different courts in Jammu and Kashmir participated in the event, addressing a substantial number of cases. Chief Justice Singh personally inspected the proceedings, engaging with presiding officers, bench members, advocates, and litigants. Notably, some matrimonial cases were successfully settled during the Lok Adalat, underscoring the effectiveness of the initiative in providing timely resolution to legal disputes. The success of this event sets a positive precedent for future Lok Adalats, with the second one scheduled for May 11.
