IMD predicts snowfall and rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted two western disturbances to affect the weather patterns across India this week. According to the bulletin released on Sunday, these disturbances are expected to bring snowfall to the higher reaches of the Himalayas and rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in the plains. The forecast raises concerns among experts about potential lodging of the wheat crop, which is nearing harvest in a few weeks.

The first western disturbance is anticipated to bring light to moderate rainfall and snowfall to regions including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from March 10 to 12. Following this, on March 13, areas like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan are likely to experience rainfall along with gusty winds. Another moderate western disturbance is predicted to cause similar weather conditions on March 13, affecting northwestern India with rainfall, gusty winds, and snowfall. Additionally, thunderstorms and lightning are expected over various regions during these periods.

In summary, the IMD’s bulletin highlights the impact of two consecutive western disturbances on India’s weather, with specific regions experiencing rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. The forecast spans from March 10 to 14, raising concerns about potential challenges for agricultural activities, particularly regarding the lodging of crops and harvesting preparations.
