Rajeev Chandrasekhar announces AI labs in 10 Thiruvananthapuram colleges

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced plans to establish AI labs in ten colleges across Thiruvananthapuram. Speaking at a press conference held at the Center for Development of Advanced Computing in Vellayambalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Chandrasekhar highlighted that these labs aim to provide training in artificial intelligence. The initiative is part of the IndiaAI Mission, which seeks to bolster the country’s artificial intelligence innovation ecosystem.

Chandrasekhar revealed that applications for setting up AI labs have been received from 17 colleges, both government and private. From these applications, a selection of ten colleges will be announced in the next phase of the project. The implementation of the initiative will involve collaboration with a global technology company, with the central government providing infrastructure support for AI training.

The IndiaAI Mission, introduced by the Narendra Modi government, is a comprehensive initiative with a budget outlay of Rs 10,372 crore over the next five years. Its components include various aspects such as IndiaAI Compute Capacity, Innovation Centre, Datasets Platform, Application Development Initiative, FutureSkills, Startup Financing, and Safe & Trusted AI. Chandrasekhar emphasized the goal of developing sovereign AI models tailored to Indian languages and datasets, aligning with global advancements in artificial intelligence.
