IB Minister launches ‘Swaraj’ series on OTT platform

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur unveiled the inaugural season of “Swaraj” on the popular OTT platform Amazon Prime. Emphasizing its significance, Thakur described the series as a homage to the unsung heroes of India’s independence struggle, who made immense sacrifices for the nation. He underscored that the show, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” initiative, sheds light on lesser-known tales of bravery during India’s fight for freedom.

Thakur expressed confidence that “Swaraj” would kindle a sense of national pride among the youth by bringing forth historical narratives that have been overshadowed by time. The series aims to convey the indomitable spirit of India’s 500-year-long battle against colonial oppression, offering both domestic and international audiences insights into the nation’s arduous journey to independence. Produced by Contiloe Pictures, the 75-episode show delves into the courageous feats of India’s freedom fighters, spanning from Vasco da Gama’s arrival in 1498 to India’s momentous independence in 1947.

In addition to “Swaraj,” Thakur highlighted the launch of “Sardar: The Game Changer,” a new 52-episode serial aired by Doordarshan in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary. “Swaraj” Season 1, comprising 10 episodes, will be accessible in seven regional languages, including Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam, ensuring wider reach and inclusivity.
