The Jammu Kashmir National Front (JKNF), led by Nayeem Ahmad Khan, suffered a significant setback on Tuesday (March 12) when the Central government imposed a ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. In an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the JKNF, which has ties to the hardline Hurriyat Conference, was officially designated as an “unlawful association” with immediate effect.
The government cited various reasons for the ban, including the JKNF’s involvement in activities deemed detrimental to the integrity, sovereignty, and security of the nation. Accusations against the organization included support for terrorist activities, dissemination of anti-India propaganda, and promotion of secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, the JKNF was accused of providing logistical support to terrorists within the Union territory and orchestrating violent protests, including incidents of stone-pelting aimed at security forces across Kashmir.
