A tragic incident unfolded in Srinagar as a boat capsized in the Jhelum River near Batwara, resulting in the loss of four lives and leaving three others hospitalized. Locals from the Batwara—Gandabal area reported that the boat, which was carrying children, overturned early in the morning, causing shock and distress in the community. Prompt action was taken to rescue those onboard, and the survivors were swiftly transported to Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Efforts to address the crisis were immediately initiated, with a rescue operation launched to retrieve individuals from the river. Seven people were successfully evacuated and taken to SMHS Hospital. Dr. Muzaffar Zargar, the Medical Superintendent of SMHS, confirmed the tragic toll, stating that four individuals had succumbed to the incident, while the remaining three were receiving treatment for their injuries.
Amidst the rescue efforts, authorities deployed the State Disaster Response Force to manage the situation. The incident occurred against the backdrop of incessant rainfall in the region over the past few days, resulting in the river breaching its banks and contributing to the tragic accident.
