Ramdev, Balkrishna Acharya to apologize publicly for misleading ad

The Supreme Court has granted yoga guru Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd MD Balkrishna Acharya a week’s time to address alleged contempt charges stemming from misleading advertisements. Ramdev and Balkrishna’s legal representatives expressed their readiness to issue a public apology during court proceedings, prompting the court to adjourn the matter to April 23 for compliance.

During the hearing, both Ramdev and Balkrishna were present, and the bench encouraged direct engagement with the judiciary. The ongoing proceedings involve discussions between the bench and Ramdev regarding the issue. In response to previous court orders, Ramdev and Balkrishna have submitted separate affidavits tendering an unconditional apology for breaching statements recorded in the court’s November 21, 2023 order.

The case underscores the importance of adhering to legal standards in advertising and branding, particularly concerning claims related to medicinal products. The court’s directives emphasize the need for compliance with laws, including refraining from making false statements regarding product efficacy in media promotions.
