Sunita Kejriwal is poised to step into the campaigning arena for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat, in the absence of her husband, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Party sources disclosed on Tuesday that Sunita may accompany Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during the campaign efforts. AAP has nominated candidates for two of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, with Chaitar Vasava contesting from Bharuch and Umesh Makwana representing Bhavnagar.
Under the seat-sharing agreement, the Congress will field candidates for the remaining 24 seats in Gujarat. The party is expected to unveil its roster of star campaigners for the state later in the day. The Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat are scheduled to take place in a single phase on May 7, with the deadline for filing nomination papers set for April 19.
Meanwhile, AAP has revealed its lineup of four candidates for Punjab, three of whom are incumbent MLAs. Former MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu will contest from the Jalandhar reserve constituency, Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar from Ferozepur, Amansher Singh Kalsi from Gurdaspur, and Ashok Parashar Pappi from Ludhiana. This announcement was made by the party’s national general secretary Sandeep Pathak via a post on X. Brar, Kalsi, and Pappi currently hold seats in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, while Tinu recently switched allegiance from the Shiromani Akali Dal to AAP.
