Kerala HC rejects Petition Against ‘The Kerala Story’ Screening

The High Court has rejected a plea to stop the screening of the controversial film “The Kerala Story”, citing the Election Commission’s stance that the film’s screening should not be halted for election-related reasons. The commission clarified that it has previously reviewed complaints regarding pre-released biographical films of leaders and candidates, but “The Kerala Story” does not fall under that category.

The film has sparked controversy, with BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi stating that it is based on a true event and accusing the LDF and UDF of “willingly or unwillingly supporting the Hamas appeasement rally” in Kozhikode. Meanwhile, the Diocese of Thamarassery in Kerala has screened the film across all Kerala Catholic Youth Movement units under the diocese, including a screening at the Angamali St. Joseph Church.

The controversy surrounding “The Kerala Story” has also led to the screening of a documentary titled “Manipur Cry of the Oppressed” at the Angamali St. Joseph Church, which began at 9:30 am on April 10. The documentary is a response to the controversy surrounding “The Kerala Story” and adds to the ongoing debate and discussion surrounding the film.
