Amitabh Bachchan is set to receive the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, as announced by the Mangeshkar family on Tuesday. Established in memory of the late Lata Mangeshkar, the award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation, its people, and society. Bachchan, aged 81, will be honored on April 24, coinciding with the memorial day of Deenanath Mangeshkar, the esteemed theatre-music veteran and father of Lata Mangeshkar.
The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar, as it is formally known, has previously been bestowed upon notable figures like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lata Mangeshkar’s sister, Asha Bhosle. This year, music maestro A R Rahman will also be recognized with the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar for his outstanding contributions to Indian music. Additionally, various other individuals and organizations will be honored across different categories, including literature, cinema, music, editorial services, and social service.
The awards ceremony, presided over by Hridaynath Mangeshkar, will witness the felicitation of the awardees by Asha Bhosle. Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Hridaynath Mangeshkar expressed gratitude for the continued celebration of the event, emphasizing the enduring legacy of Lata Mangeshkar’s inspiration and blessings. Recipients like singer Roopkumar Rathod also underscored the profound honor associated with receiving the Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar, likening it to achieving spiritual fulfillment akin to receiving an Oscar or Grammy award.
